Centennial girls water polo team caps historic season with CIF State regional title
The Huskies won their final eight matches and finished with a 29-4 record.
The Centennial girls water polo team started this season with the modest goal of qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in 14 years. The season ended with the Huskies collecting a pair of championship plaques.
Centennial defeated Palisades 10-9 to capture the CIF State Division III regional title Saturday, Feb. 26.
The win capped a historic season for the program. The Huskies won their final eight matches and finished with a 29-4 record. Centennial also claimed the CIF Southern Section’s Division 5 championship, the program’s first section title.
“You start every season with a vision of where you want to go,” Centennial coach Crystal Voss said. “For us, the first thing was just making it into the playoffs. We didn’t necessarily know back then just how far this could go, but these girls stuck with the plan and made things happen every step of the way. What a way to end it.
